UK SMEs best at recognising technology's potential

Small businesses in the UK are among the world's best when it comes to recognising the potential of new technology.

That is what a new study by global IT trade association CompTIA has discovered as part of a survey of major IT decision makers.

The investigation found that two thirds of British small to medium enterprises (SMEs) were "constantly" evaluating new technologies for their business.

Matthew Poyiadgi, CompTIA's European vice president, said: "UK businesses are significantly ahead of the game when it comes to emerging technologies. This is largely due to their employees. Nearly three-quarters of UK… [SMEs] say that their IT staff are on top of new technologies."

He added that employees of UK small businesses were almost twice as confident as their US and Canadian counterparts.

The study also found that 37% UK SMEs voted "environmental sound IT practice" as their top priority in business.

The Federation for Small Businesses earlier this month challenged Downing Street to provide better support for SMEs during the economic crisis.
